Long Term Bookings Survey Results

Some highlights from the survey results:

  • An impressive 51 members took the time to respond to the survey.
  • LTB Submissions: 62% of applicable respondents felt the deadline of April 1st was good compared to 38% that felt it was too early.
  • Locations of LTBs: 69% of respondents do not want a LTB boat at Burrard compared to 28% that do. Members that intend to take an LTB in 2019 like Sidney, Pender Harbour and Campbell River but are not Reed Point or Powell River.
  • Projections for 2019: Of the 23 members that took an LTB in 2018, 20 responded to the survey. Of all respondents to the survey, 39 indicated they intend to take an LTB in 2019. We need to prepare for an increase in LTB bookings in 2019.
  • Seasonality : 26% of those wanting LTBs indicated they have kids so have to book when school is out. 58% indicated they could be swayed to shoulder season (June, September) with a longer booking while 16% would be interested in a shoulder season booking if it was out of Burrard.
  • Why not: Of respondents with sailing permits that did not take an LTB, 22% were new, 19% lacked qualifications, 15% found LTBs don’t fit with their lifestyle, 12% feel the boats are too small and 6% didn’t want to explore from the 2018 locations.
  • Switchover day: 1/3 of respondents that intend to take an LTB booking in 2019 are neutral on the switchover day. Another 1/3 would like it to remain the Friday night.

Fill in the LTB survey and win a prize! Open to everyone.

Good Morning,
Here is the link to the LTB survey:
The survey will take no more than 5 minutes to complete and is important for determining changes to the LTB program for next year.
There will be a draw for all those that complete the survey with a prize of 4 tickets to the Vancouver Aquarium (value of $156).  The deadline to complete the survey is Monday October 8th.  The draw will be done at the AGM but you do not need to be present to win.
If you did not take an LTB or are a new member, you can still fill out this survey. There are questions that apply to everyone.  For those not comfortable using the computer, I will bring a few paper copies to the next meeting (October 1st).
Background for New Members:
LTB stands for Long Term Booking. Each sailing permit qualifies for a LTB (usually 7 days). Since there is high demand to take these during summer months, we have a application process that begins in the spring. This year the deadline for requests was April 1st but I continued to fill vacancies in the LTB schedule into the summer. Only sailing members with their Orientation 5 (which has an additional requirement of the Coastal Navigation course) are permitted to skipper an LTB. Over the summer months, 3 of the 6 boats are used for LTBs, leaving the other half of the fleet for day sails and short term bookings (max of 3 days).  In early 2019, prior to the application process, I will connect with new members to ensure they are familiar with the process and have the opportunity to participate in it if they wish to do so.
